What's the minimum insurance required for owner-operators?
The FMCSA requires minimum primary liability coverage of $750,000 for general freight and $1,000,000 for hazmat. Most brokers require $1M regardless of cargo type.
Do I need cargo insurance?
Cargo insurance is typically required by brokers and shippers. It protects you if the freight is damaged or lost in transit.
What is bobtail insurance?
Bobtail (non-trucking liability) covers you when you're driving your truck without a trailer or not under dispatch. Your motor carrier's insurance typically doesn't cover this.
